Can I Be An Extra?

Extras come in Allsorts of
shapes, sizes, ages and nationalities!

Extras are used in productions to make scenes look more realistic and to represent real people.
This is not a beauty contest! We are champions of personality, confidence and characters.

Whether you are looking to build your career as a professional actor or if you are just looking for new creative experiences and varied work opportunities.
Allsorts casting works with Allsorts of faces and we are always looking to add new people to our creative network.

To take part in extras work you need to be quite flexible with your schedule as most of the work happens on weekdays. If you work or study part-time or work casually extras work could be a good fit for you.

If you have full time work or study that is flexible you can still work as an extra as most productions will give you ample notice to arrange your schedule or you might be able to work during study holidays or other break periods.

Having limited availability means you just might miss out on work that comes in at short notice.

Extras work can often come in short bursts based on your availability and the type of production. For example if you are selected to take part in a feature film you might have continuous work over a few weeks. Other work might be regular but infrequent Ie: if you are cast an extra in a TV series you might get cast whenever the production is shooting that style scene where you are an established background character.

Being an extra is all about being flexible, agile and ready for opportunities; our team will work with you to find the right type of work that fits with your personal situation.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Allsorts casting works directly with local Casting Directors to find talent for upcoming productions.

We are sent a casting brief outlining the type of talent and types of roles they are looking to fill.

We submit our talent for any roles we think you are suitable for. We will communicate with you throughout this process and let you know if we are submitting you for a production and for what role. The frequency at which we will suggest you will depend on what productions are being filmed and what type of people each one is looking for.

The production company will narrow down their choices and if you are selected you may be asked to go along to a casting call or Go-See. This can be as simple as meeting the Casting Director and having additional photos taken or you may be asked to read a few lines to camera for any speaking roles.

If you are successful at this casting you will be selected for the job. You might get booked for a one day shoot or multiple days depending on the role and production. Many of our extras can work across weeks or months on larger and longer productions.

You may be required to attend a paid costume fitting ahead of the shoot day and you will usually be asked to not change your appearance ie: Hair colour and Style from the time of casting to the time of the shoot.

Even though you will know what days you are working ahead of time, you won’t receive your actual call time until the afternoon or evening before the shoot. If you have been booked for a filming day you will need to have flexibility around the exact call time.
